Namibia Export Levies

We have been made aware of export levies that will be implemented upon the gazette being finalised. Please see from the Ministry of Finance:

"IMPOSITION OF EXPORT LEVY ON RAW MINERALS, FISH PRODUCTS AND FORESTRY PRODUCTS: EXPORT LEVY ACT, (ACT 2 OF 2016).

The Government of the Republic of Namibia by Government Gazette No. 6042 of 20 June 2016 imposed Export Levy on Raw Minerals, Fish products and Forestry products. The Levy is imposed in terms of the Export Levy Act, (Act 2 of 2016) which aims to provide for the imposition of an export levy on certain goods, so as to improve Namibia’s value share in its resource base, to encourage further processing or beneficiation of or value addition to such goods, to support national or regional industrial development, to promote the development of regional value chains and to meet revenue needs; and to provide for incidental matters.
In light of the above, the public is hereby notified that the Act will come into effect on 1 June 2017 and will be effective for all exports made on or after 1 June 2017.
Guidelines for the practical application of the Act have been drafted and are available from Customs Officials."
